How Corporations Control the World
Saying that corporations control the world is an exaggeration. Corporations have a lot of money, and therefore, have a lot lobbying power in the government. Many government actions have been heavily influenced by corporations and related political corruption. However, the government is still largely its own entity, separate from businesses and corporations. Never the less, there are some key aspects of corporations we must assess that may make it seem as those the argument of total corporate control is not too far from reality.
Corporations have a monopoly on...
- Jobs-- Its hard to find jobs that aren't provided by major corporations, especially in densely populated cities. Even if a person were to find a job in a small shop, chances are, that company is selling goods manufactured, produced, distributed or sold to major corporations, and inevitably, it is impossible for an average person to find work which isn't serving some corporate master somewhere else.
- Products-- Going down the cereal isle, a person might think there are a lot of choices available. With all the different types of cereals out there, in so many different flavors, there are hundreds of options to choose from. However, chances are that whether it be cereal, an exercise machine, toothpicks, or anything else you might by, the products available to purchase are made by one of only a handful of different companies. Corporations even have many sub-companies they own with different names. P&G is one of these major companies. They have thousands of products with different brand names.
- Distribution-- Although there are many independent distribution companies, most of the work that is available to these companies come from major corporations. Furthermore, big corporations tend to own their own distribution companies, making finding work in the industry very narrow.
In general, we are all slaves to corporations. We need money, and they provide whatever wages they want. They even offer us incentives like employee discounts, which stuffs their wallets even more! There are many choices of corporate jobs out there, but one way or another, your choices are limited to whom you wish to be a slave. This is not a free America. This is no liberty. This is enslavement by the powerful rich that have all the control.
